Returning to the Eastern European market for the 10th time, InterContinental Hotels Group will debut not only its first Crowne Plaza in Poland, but also its first dual-branded hotel complex in the country. Teaming up with Ghelamco, IHG has signed a deal to open the Crowne Plaza Warsaw Hub and the Holiday Inn Express Warsaw Hub in the Warsaw's central business district.
With a total of 430 guestrooms, the IHG-managed hotel complex is slated to be the company's biggest property in Poland. The country's first Crowne Plaza will have 212 guestrooms on floors 11 to 21 while the Holiday Inn Express will have 218 guestrooms spread across floors three to 10. It will be developed near the National Museum, Warsaw Old Town and the Warsaw Zoo.
The hotel group's new hotels were planned just after the rise in inbound traveler numbers across Eastern Europe, which has increased 5.2 percent since early 2017, according to a report from the European Travel Commission. In response, hotel occupancy is up by almost 6 percent as RevPAR totals has grown by 20 percent in 2017, compared to 2016's levels. With these recent IHG additions to the market, Warsaw's guestroom stock now totals over 2000.
IHG has been on a signing spree in Eastern Europe since the beginning of the year, shelling out 10 hotel signings across the region so far—half of which will be developed in Warsaw. These include Holiday Inn Warsaw Mokotow, Holiday Inn Express Warsaw Mokotow and Staybridge Suites Warsaw Ursynów—IHG's first extended stay brand in the market.
The group has nine hotels and 1,459 guestrooms in Poland with another 10 hotels and 2,101 guestrooms in the works.
