The St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, will reopen Oct. 29, following completion of a $60 million renovation following Hurricane Maria.
The renovation covers all 139 guest rooms and suites, the Iridium Spa, the pool and esplanade area, the oceanfront golf course and the two-story Plantation House, which features the St. Regis Bar and the resort's signature restaurant.
Hanging above the bar will be "The Long Awaited Voyage," a famous mural by Puerto Rican artist Arnaldo Roche Rabell that has been restored.
An additional 60 oceanfront rooms will be added in a future $30 million expansion.
The resort also is building the Ocean Drive Residences, an $85 million luxury development with three and four-bedroom condominiums in three beachfront buildings.
The first building, now under construction, is due to be completed by June 2019.
The St. Regis Bahia Beach also will debut the Atlantic Drive Estates, a collection of coastal home sites west of the resort.
The resort is set on 483 acres of a former coconut plantation, situated between El Yunque National Forest and the Espiritu Santo River State Preserve, 30 minutes from San Juan.
For guests interested in volunteer opportunities and activities that support communities affected by the hurricanes, the resort has partnered with the nonprofit Ama de Bahia organization on several initiatives.
