Preface
Cup tasting is a professional skill, an occupation, and a pleasure as well. What constitutes a good cup of coffee? Professional assessment is required. The significance of cup tasting is considered to be evaluating and comparing the quality of several different kinds of coffee under the same circumstances. Because of the nuance of coffee, it is frequent that the method of extraction may affect coffee traits (flavor, body, freshness and etc.). To eliminate these variables, elaborate prepared cup tasting helps taste the most basic natural traits of coffee.
Brief
The World Cup Tasters Championship awards the professional coffee cupper who demonstrates speed, skill, and accuracy in distinguishing the taste differences in specialty coffees. The championship aims to explore and lead the trend of coffee, to spread coffee culture and to provide a platform of showing, competing and communicating for professional cuppers in the world. 2016 China Cup Tasters Championship finals will be held on site of HOTELEX Guangzhou. The maturing domestic coffee market will face a new booming! No matter the well-trained professional barista or the sense-aroused beginners could gain new experience on both the breadth and depth. In a certain sense, this is a national event face to all the coffee lovers.

Overview
The competition challenges competitors to test their sensory skills by discerning taste differences in a "triangulation." Three cups are placed in a triangle, with 2 cups being identical coffees and one cup being a different coffee. Using skills of smell, taste, attention and experience, the cupper will identify the odd cup in the triangle as quickly as they can. Note that the competitors are tested on their ability to distinguish different coffees, not to identify their quality, origin, etc.
A total of 8 triangles are placed in each round. The top 8 competitors with the most correct answers and the fastest time proceed to the next Semi-Finals round. Then the top 4 will compete again in the Finals round to determine the next World Cup Tasters Champion. The competitor who identifies the most "odd" cups from the eight sets will be declared the winner. In the case of a tie (i.e. when two or more competitors share the highest number of correctly identified triangulations) the competitor with the shortest completion time wins.
