Imports from China accounted for 57% of the total furniture imported into the United States last year, reaching $13.68 billion. That represented an 11.9% increase over the country's 2014 shipments of $12.23 billion.

Vietnam was the leader in terms of import growth, leaping 19.9% from $2.62 billion in 2014 to $3.14 billion last year. Product from Canada reached $1.25 billion and imported furniture from Mexico hit $1.197 billion.

Eighteen percent of furniture stores import product directly, according to Furniture/Today’s 2015 Furniture Store Performance Report. Stores record a median of 22% of total sales from direct imports.

Furniture exports grew by only 1% in 2015 as demand for U.S.-made product fell in Canada, China and Saudi Arabia. Overall 2015 furniture exports reached $2.38 billion.
