Abbyson Living has named Michael Cheng its director of Asian operations, a new position at the designer and manufacturer of contemporary case goods and upholstery.

Cheng, who’ll work at Abbyson’s office in Dongguan, China, will oversee product development, quality control and manufacturing across Abbyson facilities in Asia. His priorities will be ensuring flawless internal product handling and maintaining superior quality, according to the company.

Abbyson already has a quality control team in China, but Cheng’s appointment “will definitely help us make our quality even better,” said Taran Kaur, executive manager.

Cheng has worked for 14 years in the home furnishings business, most recently as sales manager for North America at Kuka Home Furniture, focusing on product development, marketing and sales.

Cheng’s “knowledge about furniture and product manufacturing is what made him the right candidate for this role and a valuable addition to the Abbyson family,” said Rodd Rafieha, vice president of sales and marketing.
