The Red Dot Award 2018: Best of the Best

The Red Dot Gala 2018 was held on July 9th at the Aalto Theatre in Essen. This year, over 6,000 product applications from more than 59 countries were assessed by a jury of 39 design experts. As a result, a total of 69 entries (just 1.1% of all entries) received the top award in the competition–the Red Dot: Best of the Best. Those entries can be said to be the representatives of the world’s best product design. Among them, a total of 3 entries are lighting design works.

Bijou Lamp + Table by Sergey Makhno Architects

We’ve featured the architectural and interior design work of Sergey Makhno Architects in the past and now the Ukrainian design firm is showing another side with their product designs, particularly the Bijou Lamp + Table, designed by Sergey Makhno and Igor Havrylenko. Composed of stone, marble, and steel, the combination piece takes on a sculptural feel with its elegant stem bisecting the stone base to curve up and hold its marble tabletop. The minimalist design pulls double duty with its reserved silhouette making it fit in to about any situation.
