    Troy-CSL Lighting and Amerlux join Philip’s EnabLED Licensing Program

    In June, two more U.S. lighting companies—Troy-CSL Lighting and Amerlux—entered into Philip’s EnabLED Licensing Program. The patent license agreement, which is “…based on Philips Lighting’s EnabLED program’s published terms and conditions, provides Troy-CSL Lighting and Amerlux with full, worldwide access to a wide range of basic LED control and system-level technologies.” The press release went on to state, “As a result of the agreement, all outstanding litigations between the companies related to patents offered under the EnabLED Licensing Program for LED Luminaires and Retrofit Bulbs have been dismissed.”

    Lumileds LUXEON C Color Portfolio Gets Double-Digit Performance Improvements

    Lumileds announced today that it has considerably improved the flux across its color LED family. Performance improvements to the flagship LUXEON C Color Line includes 20% higher lumen output in its LUXEON C Green and Cyan compared to the previous generation; the LUXEON C Red-Orange features a 12% flux increase and the LUXEON C Red an 8% flux increase. “As the demands on our customer’s fixtures become more challenging, we need to ensure our Color portfolio enables them to meet these demands. This increase in flux across several key colors will give our customers a significant boost in performance in existing designs as well as allow them to start from a higher level of performance in new designs,” said Jennifer Holland, Product Line Director of the LUXEON C Color Line.

The portfolio of colors enables wavelength tuning for maximum crop yield in both greenhouse and vertical farming applications. The addition to the LUXEON SunPlus 35 Line of Far Red and Deep Red will enable designers of vertical farm and interweaving fixtures to tune the spectrum specifically for the crop being grown. The new LUXEON SunPlus CoB Line, available in Purple, is designed for greenhouse applications where attaining high PPF and fast time to market are top priorities.

    San Jose, CA – March 27 – Today Lumileds introduced a new addition to its mid power family, the new LUXEON 3030 2D with a square LES, which is specifically optimized for high flux and maximum reliability in a variety of general lighting applications including downlights, high bay & low bay fixtures and outdoor lighting applications. “With the new LUXEON 3030 2D, we are able to offer the industry’s highest flux in a two-die mid power package, but also our hot-color targeted approach ensures superior color accuracy to that of other LED manufacturers,” said Mei Yi, Product Manager of LUXEON 3030 2D for Lumileds.

    Osram Strengthens Digital Business with Acquisition of Trilux Subsidiary

    Osram is strengthening its electronic component business with the acquisition of BAG electronics, a Trilux subsidiary. BAG specializes in LED modules and software for innovative LED lighting solutions. The company, based in Arnsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia, was previously part of the Trilux Group. Following the takeover, its 380 employees have moved to Osram. At the same time, a strategic five-year supply contract including a minimum sales volume has been agreed, with Osram supplying Trilux with components for use in its lights. BAG generated revenues of around €50 million in 2017.

One consideration beyond the established cost reductions of SSL in institutional buildings such as schools is the possible impact of tunable white lighting in the classroom. Naturally, dimmability and other controls features such as granularity of color temperature can be customized to various classroom tasks and increase visual acuity. But what’s becoming even more appealing to educational administrators is the ability to influence less “visible” factors in the classroom, such as mood, behavior, and concentration. Strategies in Light, co-located with The LED Show and Lightspace California, will draw more attention to so-called human-centric lighting applications as this, also known as lighting for health and wellbeing. One such presentation, “Lighting for pupils…Tunable white lighting in the classroom and the new ROI,” by Tricia Foster of Acuity Brands Lighting and Catherine Hollenshead of Estes, McClure & Associates (EMA), will feature a case study on a Texas school district’s first-hand experience using tunable white lighting in several classrooms. Here the speakers give a glimpse into the new classroom experience.
