    The Seoul Semiconductor action against Mouser is ironic in that Mouser distributes Seoul Semiconductor LEDs. But the move is aligned with recent trends where intellectual property (IP) owners in the LED sector have targeted distributors and even retailers trying to stop the flow of what they believe to be infringing components. Nichia, for example, sued Mouser earlier this year targeting Everlight components. Indeed, Nichia even targeted retailer Lowes in a legal action.

    Seoul Semiconductor Wins Patent Litigation in Germany

    Seoul Semiconductor announced that it won a patent litigation against Everlight in Germany.The patent involved in this litigation relates to an LED package structure for thermal dissipation. Everlight purchased this patent from a U.S. company in 2017, and subsequently brought a patent lawsuit against Seoul in the Mannheim Court of Germany. In December 2018, the Mannheim Court ruled in favor of Seoul Semiconductor and ordered that Everlight to bear the statutory costs of the court proceeding.

    Seoul Semiconductor Files Patent Lawsuit against U.S. TV Retailer

    Seoul Semiconductor has filed a patent infringement lawsuit in Texas, USA, against Fry’s Electronics, a U.S. based retail company of consumer electronics. Seoul Semiconductor has accused Fry’s Electronics of selling LED TV products which infringed Seoul Semiconductor’s LED patents.

    Seoul Semiconductor Files Patent Suit Against European Distributor of MEGAMAN Lighting Products

    Seoul Semiconductor continues to expand its European enforcement. The Korean company announced that that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit in Germany in the District Court of Düsseldorf against Leuchtstark Vertriebs GmbH, a European LED lighting distributor, asserting infringement of Seoul’s LED patents. Seoul is currently investigating Leuchstark’s OEM/ODM manufacturers as well as other distributors.

    Seoul Semiconductor Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit against SATCO

    Seoul Semiconductor filed a patent infringement lawsuit for infringement of its LED driver patents against SATCO Products (SATCO). Seoul Semiconductor claimed that SATCO is selling various LED lighting products that infringe 11 patents of Seoul Semiconductor’s LED driver technology, including U.S. Patent 7,081,722, U.S. Patent 9,807,828; U.S. Patent 8,513,899; and U.S. Patent 8,716,946.

    Seoul Semiconductor Announced that SunLike Received an RG-1 Eye Safety Certification

    The world-leading LED company Seoul Semiconductor (Head office: Ansan-si, Korea, CEO: Chung Hoon Lee, hereinafter Seoul Semiconductor) announced that SunLike, which implements light which comes closest to sunlight, received an RG-1 Eye Safety certification based on the safety of its light source and was recognized for the highest level of safety amongst 25W COB type LED.

    Lumileds LUXEON C Color Portfolio Gets Double-Digit Performance Improvements

    Lumileds announced today that it has considerably improved the flux across its color LED family. Performance improvements to the flagship LUXEON C Color Line includes 20% higher lumen output in its LUXEON C Green and Cyan compared to the previous generation; the LUXEON C Red-Orange features a 12% flux increase and the LUXEON C Red an 8% flux increase. “As the demands on our customer’s fixtures become more challenging, we need to ensure our Color portfolio enables them to meet these demands. This increase in flux across several key colors will give our customers a significant boost in performance in existing designs as well as allow them to start from a higher level of performance in new designs,” said Jennifer Holland, Product Line Director of the LUXEON C Color Line.

    An Acrich Based Compact LED Driver with 5X Power Density

    Seoul Semiconductor has developed an ultra-compact LED driver series with a power density 5X higher than conventional LED drivers. Based on Seoul Semiconductor’s patented Acrich technology, the MicroDriver Series delivers more than 24W of output power with a power density of 20W/cubic inch cubic inch, compared to existing drivers at 3-5W/cubic inch. Measuring just 1.5” x 1.1” x 0.8” (38mm x 28mm x 20.5mm), the MicroDriver is 80% smaller than conventional LED drivers, giving lighting designers the ability to develop ultra-thin and novel luminaires with flicker-free operation.
