    London Draws up Large Smart Light Projects

    London's smart street lighting project aims to illuminate the city with smart lighting at night. The choice of the London show that world-class cities depend on technology is reliable, reliable, scalable, and based on our open standards technology.

     

    Silver Spring Networks announced that it will deploy its Starfish™ platform-as-a-service (PaaS) across the City of London and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. This adds to the previously announced London deployment in the City of Westminster. Through urbancontrol, the newest company within the DW Windsor Group, Silver Spring’s Starfish is expected to connect approximately 12,000 smart street lights in the City of London and 15,500 smart street lights in the Borough of Barking and Dagenham. Starfish is based on Silver Spring’s proven, secure, and reliable wireless network and data platform, built on the Wi-SUN® IoT mesh technology specification. Silver Spring is a founding member and co-chair of the Wi-SUN Alliance®, which drives the interoperability for wireless solutions based on the IEEE 802.15.4g standard1.

    Telensa, expert in smart street lighting and smart city applications, announced that it has been selected by the council of Sandwell in UK to provide a smart street lighting solution as part of the region’s 2030 Vision Initiative. The Council plans to install nearly 4,000 lights by 2020, with the intention to increase this to over 11,000 by 2022, which will be wirelessly connected and managed using Telensa’s PLANet system. The Council is also converting all their streetlights to LED as part of the upgrade. PLANet will give the Council control over lighting levels, allowing them to remotely tailor for each location, in addition to energy and maintenance cost savings.
