Taking pride in their unique data and technology solutions, the company recently opened a new facility in Atlanta, Georgia, and they wanted that uniqueness to be on full display from the moment visitors entered the doors. Working with A/V Integration firm Velocity Productions, the new construction project offered a blank canvas for the creation of the new lobby environment, which was transformed through an LED video design with 1.9mm TrueFLEX provided by Nashville-basedPixelFLEX™.

    Lumileds LUXEON C Color Portfolio Gets Double-Digit Performance Improvements

    Lumileds announced today that it has considerably improved the flux across its color LED family. Performance improvements to the flagship LUXEON C Color Line includes 20% higher lumen output in its LUXEON C Green and Cyan compared to the previous generation; the LUXEON C Red-Orange features a 12% flux increase and the LUXEON C Red an 8% flux increase. “As the demands on our customer’s fixtures become more challenging, we need to ensure our Color portfolio enables them to meet these demands. This increase in flux across several key colors will give our customers a significant boost in performance in existing designs as well as allow them to start from a higher level of performance in new designs,” said Jennifer Holland, Product Line Director of the LUXEON C Color Line.

    As part of the United States Army Medical Command, the Weed Army Community Hospital at Fort Irwin, California, is an award-winning medical facility centered in the Mojave Desert. With temperatures outside often rising to dangerous levels, the hospital wanted to bring waterfalls inside to create a relaxing and soothing lobby display. Without the ability to build actual waterfalls, the design engineering team turned to nuMedia Innovations who worked with Nashville-based PixelFLEX to create a series of waterfall illusions using TrueFLEX 10mm indoor LED video technology.

    Specializing in the design of premiere audio/visual systems, J Sound Services has produced a number of successful integrated solutions for the design-build industry. Recently working with the management team behind the new Top Golf location in Nashville, Tennessee, they were asked to create a custom acoustics and audio/visual design for The Cowan, a two-story live performance music venue. Wanting a high-definition video display to complement the multitude of applications planned for the new venue, J Sound Services installed a mobile and expansive FLEXTour 2.8mm LED video solution from PixelFLEX.

    LUXEON's New Products to SunPlus Series for Horticulture

    Lumileds recently introduced three new products in its LUXEON SunPlus Series of award winning LEDs for horticulture lighting. The LUXEON SunPlus Series is the only line of LEDs on the market to be tested and binned by photosynthetic photon flux (PPF). The portfolio of colors enables wavelength tuning for maximum crop yield in both greenhouse and vertical farming applications. The addition to the LUXEON SunPlus 35 Line of Far Red and Deep Red will enable designers of vertical farm and interweaving fixtures to tune the spectrum specifically for the crop being grown. The new LUXEON SunPlus CoB Line, available in Purple, is designed for greenhouse applications where attaining high PPF and fast time to market are top priorities.

    Tunable white lighting in the classroom: The new ROI is ROO

    Throughout the past few years, we at LEDs Magazine have seen more solid-state lighting (SSL) product development targeted at educational environments. School officials, especially in the public-school arena, must manage strict budgets and plan strategically to obtain the best return on investment (ROI) possible, so the potential financial implications are important factors — first, the cost of premium equipment and installation, but then balanced against the possible payback due to energy efficiency initiatives and less maintenance. One consideration beyond the established cost reductions of SSL in institutional buildings such as schools is the possible impact of tunable white lighting in the classroom. Naturally, dimmability and other controls features such as granularity of color temperature can be customized to various classroom tasks and increase visual acuity. But what’s becoming even more appealing to educational administrators is the ability to influence less “visible” factors in the classroom, such as mood, behavior, and concentration. Strategies in Light, co-located with The LED Show and Lightspace California, will draw more attention to so-called human-centric lighting applications as this, also known as lighting for health and wellbeing. One such presentation, “Lighting for pupils…Tunable white lighting in the classroom and the new ROI,” by Tricia Foster of Acuity Brands Lighting and Catherine Hollenshead of Estes, McClure & Associates (EMA), will feature a case study on a Texas school district’s first-hand experience using tunable white lighting in several classrooms. Here the speakers give a glimpse into the new classroom experience. They will offer up additional details during SIL on how ROI has evolved into “return on objective” (ROO) in such installations. — Carrie Meadows
