Detailed by delicate drapes of chains, the axolight ‘alysoid’ is a collection of suspension lamps that configure a jewel-like constellation with an intriguing interplay between air, light and structure. created by japanese designer ryosuke fukusada, the light’s design and name, ‘alysoid’, sources influence from the fields of geometry and architecture. also known as ‘catenary’ or ‘catenary arch’, ‘alysoid’ is the curve formed by a flexible chain suspended from its endpoints. this contour notably features in many of spanish architect antoni gaudi’s most famous works, and was also used in the kintai bridge, design by kuroemon kodama in 1673.
