LED A-line lamps are continuing to increase their market share, with shipments up 38.5 percent in the first quarter of 2016 from the fourth quarter of 2015, according to the latest data on lamp sales and shipments from the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA). Halogen A-line shipments dropped 13.3 percent, CFL shipments dipped 24.3 percent, and incandescent A-line shipments fell 21.3 percent for the same period.
The growth of LEDs amid a decline in other lamp categories was mirrored in sales for the first quarter. LED A-line lamps grew their share of the market for lamp sales by nearly nine percentage points from the fourth quarter of 2015 and the first quarter of 2016 to account for 26.1 percent of the consumer lamp market. Halogen A-line lamps still account for nearly half of all consumer lamp shipments—46.5 percent—but that share fell slightly in the first quarter of 2016. CFL lamps reported a share of 19.2 percent and incandescent lamps of 8.2 for the quarter.
