    Strategies In Light Will Open With A New Keynote Session

     a special opening keynote session will be held on Tuesday afternoon before the Strategies in Light, and this meeting is opened to every participant, we have Keynote Session, Michael Pawlyn, Fred Maxik, Mark McClear,Adrian Velicescu to be the plenary speakers.

     

    In 2018, Strategies in Light will open with a new keynote session that addresses high-level concerns and brings insights to industry professionals on market opportunities, emerging applications, and areas of growth in LED and lighting. BOB STEELE reports on the strategic speakers who will kickstart each session.

     

    For the first time at Strategies in Light (Feb. 13–15, 2018; Long Beach, CA), a special opening keynote session will be offered on Tuesday afternoon, prior to the start of the main conference on Wednesday morning. This session will be open to all conference and exhibit attendees, including exhibit-only and LightSpace California registrants. This session, as well as the plenary session on Wednesday morning, will feature high-level speakers offering wide-ranging insights on critical issues facing the LED and lighting industries. In addition, Strategies Unlimited’s director of LED and lighting market research, Philip Smallwood, will present the latest market data and forecasts.

    Tunable white lighting in the classroom: The new ROI is ROO

    Throughout the past few years, we at LEDs Magazine have seen more solid-state lighting (SSL) product development targeted at educational environments. School officials, especially in the public-school arena, must manage strict budgets and plan strategically to obtain the best return on investment (ROI) possible, so the potential financial implications are important factors — first, the cost of premium equipment and installation, but then balanced against the possible payback due to energy efficiency initiatives and less maintenance. One consideration beyond the established cost reductions of SSL in institutional buildings such as schools is the possible impact of tunable white lighting in the classroom. Naturally, dimmability and other controls features such as granularity of color temperature can be customized to various classroom tasks and increase visual acuity. But what’s becoming even more appealing to educational administrators is the ability to influence less “visible” factors in the classroom, such as mood, behavior, and concentration. Strategies in Light, co-located with The LED Show and Lightspace California, will draw more attention to so-called human-centric lighting applications as this, also known as lighting for health and wellbeing. One such presentation, “Lighting for pupils…Tunable white lighting in the classroom and the new ROI,” by Tricia Foster of Acuity Brands Lighting and Catherine Hollenshead of Estes, McClure & Associates (EMA), will feature a case study on a Texas school district’s first-hand experience using tunable white lighting in several classrooms. Here the speakers give a glimpse into the new classroom experience.     SIL Tracks Send Strong Signals About Lighting Prospects

    In no uncertain terms, the LED has been labeled a “disruptive” technology by many researchers and industry representatives. Indeed, it is and has been the overarching theme of the Strategies in Light (SIL) conference program and associated events since the first SIL conference in 2000. The lighting industry has been steadily marching beyond the LED component to the capabilities of digitally-controllable solid-state lighting (SSL), which can now be connected to other devices and to networks and the broader Internet — in what we know as the Internet of Things (IoT). Players in the SSL market are thinking outside of the light source and looking toward a disruptive service and business model, and to enabling emerging applications. There is no better way to illustrate the themes of the three 2018 Strategies in Light conference tracks than to begin with the words of conference advisory board members.
