    Nitride Filed Patent Infringement Lawsuit Relating to UV-LED Against Digi-Key

    In late September, 2017 (CDT), Nitride Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (“Nitride”) filed a patent infringement lawsuit with the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota against Digi-Key Corporation d/b/a Digi-Key Electronics (“Digi-Key”), which sells UV-LED products on the internet that are manufactured by RayVio Corporation, a CA based UV-LED manufacturer (“RayVio”).

    Yuhuan Dafeng Environment Egis Equipment Announced the Launch of UVC-Faucet with High power UVC LED

    A global market leader of the Faucet industry, Yuhuan Dafeng Environment Egis Equipment, held a product launch event in Hangzhou, China and unveil its innovative product, UVC-Faucet. The UVC-Faucet integrates Klaran™ UVC LEDs into conventional faucet, which enables UV sterilization of water at the final point of water supply system. The product’s UVC LED would turns on simultaneously when people use water, allowing the water to be treated by UV irradiation before pouring. UVC-Faucet has passed the SGS test that it can wipe out E Coli by 99.99 percent under the condition of 1.5 liters to 2.0 liters per minute flowing rate.

    UV Power Researches For Replacing Conventional UV Light Sources with High-Power UV LEDs

    Since February 2017, a total of five research institutes and companies have been working on “UV Power”, a collaborative project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The partners have made it their goal to provide high-power UV LEDs to cover a wide variety of applications. These LEDs will eventually replace conventional UV light sources, which often contain toxic mercury, in areas such as production, disinfection, the environment, life sciences and medicine. UV LEDs are also likely to open up new areas of application.

    LG Innotek launched the new brand “InnoUV” and planned to adopt the new brand logo to all of its UV LED products. The name “InnoUV” combined ‘innovation’ and ‘UV’, according to LG Innotek, it represents “an LED that embodies LG Innotek’s innovative UV technology.”

    UV-LED-based Water Disinfection Module by Acuva Technologies Receives Certification

    The Canada UVC-LED water disinfection technology provider, Acuva Technologies announced that its Strike Platform has been certified by the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) and become the world first UV-LED drinking water disinfection module platform.

    Increasing Applications and Rising Market of UV LED

    With a wide range of applications, UV LED is considered a new rising opportunity for the LED industry. LEDinside noted in the latest report, titled “2019 Deep UV LED Application Market- Sterilization, Purification, and Water Treatment Markets,” that UV LED market continues to increase with the curing market steadily grow and rising applications in sterilization for surface, air, static and flowing water. With these driving momentums, LEDinside forecasts that the UV LED market value will reach US$ 991 million in 2023.

    Acuva Technologies announced that it has partnered with WAE, one of India's largest manufacturers of drinking water purification and dispensing equipment, to bring Acuva's proprietary UV-LED water disinfection technology to the Indian market.

    According to LEDinside, the UV LED market value is expected to reach US$ 1.224 billion in 2022, with a 2017-2022 CAGR of 33 percent. Apart from the stable market of UV LED curing, the major growing momentum of UV LED comes from sterilization, including surface, static water and flowing water disinfection.
