Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute Develops Mobile Device Disinfecting Solution with UVC LEDs

Worldwide technology builders are accelerating UVC LED developments for disinfecting applications aiming to prevent the spread of coronavirus. Lately we have seen many new products and technologies debuted and here comes a new UVC LED innovation from the German research center, Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, System Technology and Image Evaluation, which is part of the Applied System Technology AST branch (IOSB-AST).

Samsung SDS and Telensa Partner for Smart City Infrastructure and Data Solutions

Samsung SDS, the digital arm of Samsung, and Telensa, a leader in smart street lighting and smart city data, announced their partnership for smart city projects. The research article, titled “Sr[Li2Al2O2N2]:Eu2+—A high performance red phosphor to brighten the future” was published in Nature Communications on April 23, 2019.

China’s Sanan Invests 12 Billion CNY in Micro LED and Mini LED Wafer and Chip Development

Sanan Optoelectronics announced a CNY 120 billion (US$ 1.78 billion) investment agreement with Hubei Province on April 25, 2019 for Micro LED and Mini LED wafer and chip development and production. According to the agreement, Sanan will increase investment of III-V compound semiconductors for Micro LED and Mini LED wafer and chip production.

Seoul Semiconductor filed a patent infringement lawsuit for infringement of its LED driver patents against SATCO Products (SATCO). Seoul Semiconductor claimed that SATCO is selling various LED lighting products that infringe 11 patents of Seoul Semiconductor’s LED driver technology, including U.S. Patent 7,081,722, U.S. Patent 9,807,828; U.S. Patent 8,513,899; and U.S. Patent 8,716,946.
